17TH  KUZNETS  MEMORIAL  LECTURES

Abhijit Banerjee, Professor of Economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, will deliver the 17th Kuznets Memorial Lectures at the Economic Growth Center on February 17-19, 2004 and February 23-24, 2004. The lectures were established to honor the memory of the late Simon Kuznets, an earlier recipient of the Nobel Memorial Prize, and a pioneer in the use of statistics and economics to understand economic history and the process of modern economic growth. Kuznets helped found the Economic Growth Center in 1961.

The format will differ from the usual.  Instead of a series of public lectures, Abhijit will present one research seminar and will teach a series of three classes.  The classes will be appropriate for graduate students and faculty, and will be on the general topic "Growth Theory Through the Lens of Development Economics".  The classes will be on February 17 (tues), 19 (thurs) and 24 (tues) from 2:30-4:00.  His seminar will be Monday, February 23 at 3:30, on "Inequality, Growth and Trade Policy".  So that we can schedule appropriate rooms for the classes, please let Marie-Jane Lamihaute' (marie-jane.lamihaute@yale.edu) know as soon as possible if you might be attending some or all of his classes.

All of the classes will be held at 28 Hillhouse Ave, room #B8 and the lecture on 2/24 will be at Luce Hall, room #203.
