Course announcements:

03/29

Answers to Problem set 6 are now up.

Broken link: thanks for pointing it out, here is a corrected one:
Obstfeld, Maurice, Jay C. Shambaugh and Alan M. Taylor (2003) "The Trilemma in History: Tradeoffs among Exchange Rates, Monetary Policies, and Capital Mobility" NBER Working Paper 10396

03/28

Answers to Problem set 5 are now up.  Sorry for the delay.

03/24

Data that you collected in Problem set 4 is now available - see Problem sets page.

Problem set 6 is up and is due 03/29.
Quiz 2 is on Thursday 03/31.

There will be extra office hours on Wednesday 03/30 2-4 and no office hours on Thursday 03/31.

It turns out some people will prefer not to have final on 04/21, but rather on 05/09.
So, I will conduct the final exam on both of these dates, I will ask you to sign up in advance though - please make your decision by next Thursday 03/31 - it will be one of your quiz questions.  You will not be able to change your mind after that.  Also, I will not be able to assign the grades until we grade the 05/09 finals - probably the grades will be available on 05/10 (let me know if it is a problem).

03/03

Problem set 6 is up and is due 03/29.
Problem set 5 is up and it is due right after the break 03/22.

02/22/04

Answers to Problem set 4 are up.

Galina's office hours tomorrow (W) 2-4, no office hours on Thursday.

02/15/05

Problem set 4 is due next Tuesday, 2/22.  Please also prepare your questions by then.

Here is a format of the midterm.  You can ask questions about it on Tuesday, 2/22.

Please fill up the questionnaire here and bring it to class.  You get 5 points free for returning your questionnaire (there is no need to write your name on your questionnaire, just tell me in your exam that you returned it - I trust you).

02/08/05

Problem set 4 is posted - due 2/17

Note a discrepancy in the syllabus: Midterm will be on 2/24, not 2/22.  (but still quite soon!)
We will use the lecture on 2/22 to catch up (you probably noticed that we are a bit behind the schedule).
Thanks to Pascal for pointing that out.

As a reminder, I know you guys are busy, but please do read ahead - it really helps during the class.

I recently learned that the authors of our textbook are working on the new edition.
If you have any comments or suggestions on the book, please let me know - I will pass them on to the authors.

02/03/05

P. set 3 is now up.  Due in a week - 2/10.  Grades for quiz 1 will be available next week.

01/27/01

Answers to problem set 2 are up.  Good luck on the quiz.
Please read for next Thursday the Big Mac article.

01/26/05

Check out the data Chris put together using your answers to problem set 1.  The link is on the problem set page.
Next Tuesday, 02/01 you will have a 30-minute quiz.  Here is all you need to know about the tests you will be taking this semester.

01/20/05

Answers to problem set 1 are now posted.  Problem set 2, due 1/27, is up.

Next Thursday, 1/27 I would like some of you to make presentations about the history of exchange rates and inflation in some countries.  Chris will talk about Ghana and I will talk about Russia.
If you would like to pick a country and make a 5 minute talk, let me know by Tuesday 1/25.  It is a great opportunity to practice giving talks - something you would have to do at some point in any career.  Here is a memo with details.
Your grade can be affected only favorably if you volunteer to present - no matter how well or poorly you do.

01/11/04 - 01/17/04  Welcome!

Please choose which discussion section you would like to attend
and sign up on Classes server (in Student uploads section).
Please stick with the same section throughout the semester.

If you plan to take this course, please fill in the questionnaire. It contains a couple of
questions from the final exam.  Print it out here, fill it up, are bring it to the class ASAP.

Problem set 1 is now posted - due 1/20.
